In late 2007, the fight for the ECW Championship was fierce. In the summer, Morrison and Punk fought for it at Vengeance, The Bash, Summerslam, and ECW, but their rivalry stalled once JoMo was suspended in September. Once he returned in October, Morrison wasn’t alone in the race for the Punk’s title. He was joined by Miz. This was the true beginning of their rivalry, but was also the beginning of their partnership. In fact, they won the WWE Tag Team titles on Smackdown a few days before their triple threat for the ECW title at the Survivor Series against Punk.

So it’s not a surprise that Miz and Morrison would work together in the beginning of the match and go after Punk, making the match more like a handicap than a triple threat. It was a smart strategy. Punk tries his best to fight them both off, but Morrison shoulder blocks Punk into the corner, trapping him long enough for Miz to get a punch in. Together, they work him over in corner. Miz and Morrison back off Punk for a second to talk strategy and when they turn their attention back to him, Punk catches Miz in the head with a vicious kick. The distraction allows JoMo to punch Punk and force in back into the corner.

JoMo whips Punk into the opposite corner and rushes in. Punk avoids him and rolls Morrison up with a sunset flip for two. JoMo recovers quickly and slingshots Punk into the corner, who lands on the second turnbuckle. He turns to crossbody Morrison. He ducks and Punk hits Miz instead. He pins him for a one count. JoMo goes after Punk, but gets hit with a spinning heel kick. Miz runs at Punk, but he moves aside and uses Miz’s momentum to propel him outside the ring. Punk grabs Morrison and throws him to the outside. He then hits the ropes and suicide dives onto both of them.

Punk rolls Morrison back into the ring. He sets up for the springboard clothesline, but Miz grabs his ankle, allowing JoMo to hit him with a forearm. Miz hits Punk and rolls him inside the ring. He follows. Miz and Morrison suplex Punk together. After discussing more strategy, Morrison holds Punk, while Miz hammers away and then they decided to change places. The strategy changed when Morrison goes to hit the Flying Chuck. Miz drops Punk and runs behind JoMo to push him off the ropes to the outside.

While Morrison is outside, Miz attacks Punk. When Morrison tries to return to the ring, Miz meets him with a strike. He hits Morrison once again and he goes down. Punk takes advantage of a distracted Miz and hits him with an enzuigiri. JoMo connects with a springboard dropkick, which pushes Miz outside the ring.

Punk tries to attack JoMo from behind, but he avoids it and hits the backbreaker-neckbreaker combination. He tries to pin Punk twice, but he kicks out each time. Morrison then gets Punk into a Japanese sleeper. It looks like a reverse anaconda vice. Punk fights out of it and hits Morrison with a series of kicks. JoMo stops his flurry with a poke in the eye. He throws Punk outside the ring. Punk holds on, but Miz pulls him off. He hits the floor with his back and head.

With Punk on the outside, Miz jumps on the apron. Morrison meets him. He knees Miz in the head. JoMo suplexes him into the ring and goes for a cover. He gets a two. JoMo measures Miz and hits the backbreaker-neckbreaker combo on him. Miz counters and plants Morrison face first on the mat. It sort of looks like the Skull Crushing Finale, but without the full nelson. He covers Morrison and gets a two.

Miz lifts Morrison to his feet and whips him into the corner. He hits the sliding corner clothesline and covers Morrison again for two. He whips JoMo into the corner again. When he rushes in, Morrison gets his feet up and kicks Miz in the face. Miz is in position for Starship Pain and Morrison hits it. I believe this is the first time he uses it. He covers Miz, but Punk breaks the count.

Punk goes back after Morrison and hits him with a forearm that backs him into the corner. Punk lifts Morrison onto the top turnbuckle. He hits him with a chop and then climbs the ropes. He hurricanranas Morrison towards Miz, who catches and powerbombs him. Miz covers Morrison, but Punk dropkicks him in the face to break it up. Punk tries to cover Miz, but he kicks out. They begin to brawl. Punk hits Miz with a spinning heel kick, a few forearms, and a clothesline. Miz ends up in the corner and Punk hits the running kneelift-bulldog combination. He kicks out of Punk’s pinning attempt. Punk hits a double underhook backbreaker and covers Miz again. He kicks out again.

Morrison rolls up a distracted and unsuspecting Punk. He pulls the tights, but only gets a two count. Punk kicks JoMo in the face and lifts him up for the GTS, but he’s close to the ropes and hangs on. Punk lets him down on the apron after Morrison elbows him a few times. They fight for control. Miz tries to run up behind Punk, but he sees him coming. Miz runs into Morrison and knocks him to the floor. Punk lifts up a distracted and disoriented Miz. He hits the GTS and covers Miz for three. Punk retains his ECW Championship.
